A Thinkers Guide to Popular Televisions
Give those GREY cells a push with our mind poking think-bits...
Sometimes it pays to think outside of the television box. Most people have PC's, so why not look at integrating your TV and PC for an office, or even bedroom. A small HD Ready Freeview TV with a PC in will also make a great PC monitor. Some even have built in DVD players for when you don't want to spark up your PC.
If your are after a good Blu-Ray DVD player, then a Sony Playstation3 may be just what you need. Plus you get a great games console for FREE!! Great if you want to keep your TV room PC free, but wouldn't mind also playing some Games from time to time.
Surround sound is great, but there is a mass of cables and boxes that will mess up your nice cool looking TV room, unless you go cable-less and powered at a premium, or, invest in a TV with a built-in software surround sound solution instead.
If LCD, Plasma and HD is of no interest to you, and all you want is just TV, then all is not lost. Go for a good cheap Tubed CRT Television coupled with a cheap but clever Freeview box, or Sky of course. Analogue is still cool, especially with a digital tuner, a PS3 Blu-Ray DVD and surround sound. And there are some great retro designs out there, check out Bang and Olufson for instance...True Style the Danish way, years ahead and still going. And if that's not enough, you can pick up an old masterpiece for less than £50 that once commanded ten times that on eBay!!!
If you search eBay diligently enough, you will find some great CRT television bargains, especially if you look for the once high end models that used Sony or Toshiba flat screens. These are great televisions, and although analogue, are easy to partner up with a Sky, Cable or FREEview box to go digital on the cheap. What used to cost £400 - £500 - £900 can now be grabbed for less than £50 with plenty of life. For big impact, go for the big screens if you have space, especially a corner. LCD and Plasma screen do not fit well in a corner like an CRT Television does.
